Work Force Summer Programs

The Work Force provides three different summer programs meeting the needs of middle school youth and rising seniors. Each program has specific criteria for participation and you can learn more by click on each program’s application link. All of our summer programs are Free of charge and they all provide some form of a stipend. Primary focus of all summer programs are to decrease summer learning loss and to set students up for success during the following school year.

 

Work Force @ CSUS Summer Program for rising 6th & 7th grade students

The Work Force @ CSUS Summer Program is for rising 6th and 7th grade scholars (current 5th and 6th grade scholars) who will be attending Cambridge Street Upper School in the fall of 2024. Preference will be given to families living in Cambridge Housing Authority developments and leased housing, or qualify for free/reduced lunch, though any family is welcomed to apply regardless of their housing/income status.

This FREE six-week summer program focuses on STEAM activities in a fun and hands-on environment. The program provides a small stipend for participants and is meant to minimize summer learning loss while providing an opportunity for scholars to have fun, make new friends, and get acclimated to CSUS norms and culture.

The program runs runs Mondays-Thursdays from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm at CSUS from July 1 - August 8, 2024.

Summer Learning and Literacy Program (SLLiP) for rising 8th grade students

The Work Force Summer Literacy Program is a FREE six-week summer program for rising 8th grade (current 7th grade) students who are either currently a 7th grade Work Force participants at CSUS Work Force, and/or whose families live in Cambridge Housing Authority developments and leased housing.

The program runs for six weeks, Mondays through Thursdays from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm from Monday July 1-Thursday August 8, 2024.

Summer College Immersion Program (SCIP) for rising 12th grade students

The Work Force Summer College Immersion Program is an academically intensive six-week paid summer job designed to help rising high school seniors (current juniors) prepare successfully for college by participating in academic readiness classes and college tours and developing a finished college application essay.

This program is primarily for CHA residents and runs Monday-Thursday for approximately 20 hours a week from July 1-August 8, 2024. This is a selective program and applicants should be ready for an interview before the selection process.
